Star Wars: The Old Republic is the plague!

I haven’t updated in a while, but then again I completely blame it on Star Wars: The Old Republic.  That’s right, the game I’ve been waiting on for years has arrived and has completely kept me hooked.  I don’t want to post a full review on this game just yet due to me not being TOO awfully far (I currently have a level 28 Sith Juggernaut), but I can tell you now, it’s worth the buy. Considering it’s picked up more subscriptions in its opening week (which isn’t even over yet!) than the current record holder (World of Warcraft) by a large margin, I would say the data speaks for itself. Again, I’ll post more once the game crack has worn off a bit.  Until then, feel free to visit me at JediTank.com.   ~JD

So last Tuesday we got to FINALLY get our hands on the dashboard update that we’ve been looking at since E3.  This couldn’t have come soon enough as I’ve been really considering taking full advantage of the Kinect, and this update has a lot to offer in this department. It takes some getting used to, but with the impressive set of features that have been added there’s a lot to cover and a lot to love. The first thing I took note of was Cloud.  It’s really something that should have been added years ago and isn’t really an innovation on their part, but something they really needed to catch up with.  For those who’ve been under a rock, cloud is hard drive space that Microsoft has set aside for your account for you to upload game saves to so that if you need it (either your Xbox crashes or you go to a friends) it’s there.  I’m personally not even using this feature, but again.  It’s there in the event that I do. Another item that isn’t innovation but something they needed to catch up on, proper youtube.com support.  Now, if you want to watch videos of some random [...]

This is one of those games I wanted for a while before I could even get it, simply because I have played guitar (rather poorly might I add) since I was around 13 years old.  I finally bought the game and it was one that I didn’t want to put down, regardless of the pain that was in my fingers. You start out by a quick setup.  The game comes with a USB plug with one end for a USB port on your console, and the other will fit almost any guitar fitted with electric pickups.  Secondly, you should make sure that if you are using a home theater setup, you should make sure you are using composite cables and not HDMI audio.  I personally just use my TV’s audio, so the HDMI wasn’t an issue. Starting the game, it puts you through a sound check so to speak.  In other words, it gives you the opportunity to strum incessantly until the game makes you stop.  Afterwords, you get involved with the tuning process, which considering I hadn’t pulled my ol’ 6 string out in months, it was definitely needed.  After this, you hop straight into your first riff, an old Stones [...]

Bigger, Badder, Better, Not really. Last year I bought Smackdown VS Raw 2011 shortly after release, and while it didn’t get quite as much play time as any of its predecessors, it was still a pretty solid release in the series.  This years iteration, re-titled as WWE’12, same scenario as above but got even less and for good reason. When I launched the game the first time, I did my ritual of creating a character, something I always do whenever I first play these titles (I’ve been playing these games since Smackdown! on the PSOne).  Character creation has received literally no improvement.  I see no new items, the look and feel just turned me off a little bit as I’ve seen all of this before.  I don’t want to complain too much about this though, as even though it hasn’t really been updated it’s still a solid feature. I finish creating my character and notice that now we have much more control over how the announcer refers to our superstar.  Interesting enough, but I still couldn’t do much with my superstar in terms of making him exactly how I wanted.  What can I say, I use obscure name.  Again, I [...]

So at 11:50pm, my wife and I are standing in line at our local Gamestop, eagerly anticipating this release.  I was a big fan of TES III: Morrowind, and my wife was really into TES IV: Oblivion, so we both figured this would be an amazing game for both of us (and an easy birthday present for her, as her birthday was the 9th). By the time we pick up the game, and get the car, we are already miserable because we aren’t home yet to play it.  Me being the loving husband I am offer her first dibs.  Let’s continue… As soon as the opening cinematic  begins, we are instantly sucked in.  The graphics, the music, the voice acting, from first glance it is all perfect.  As soon as we escape our fate in the first few sequences, we begin our journey by siding with the Imperials by helping one of them escape the opening city. Our first task past the ‘tutorial cave’ is to visit our first town in Riverwood.  We get there, see a chicken, and my wife being as trigger happy as she is gives it a mighty thwomp with her club, causing everyone in the town [...]
